COVID-19 Resolution

Below is a Resolution that council passed on July 7, 2020 urging all citizens and visitors in Wellford to wear protective face masks while in public.

RESOLUTION NO. 2020-0707R
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WELLFORD, SOUTH CAROLINA, URGING ALL CITIZENS TO WEAR PROTECTIVE FACE MASKS IN PUBLIC
WHEREAS, it is well recognized that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease COVID-19, presents a public health concern that requires extraordinary protective measures and vigilance; and
WHEREAS, these matters have taken many forms across the nation including travel bans, school closures, individual quarantines, and cancellation of major events, among other measures; and
 
WHEREAS, the Governor of South Carolina declared a State of Emergency on March 13, 2020, to enhance the state's response to the COVID-19 virus's impact on the state; and
WHEREAS, the City of Wellford is working with other government agencies in an effort to prevent the spread of disease; and
WHEREAS, in light of the foregoing, Wellford City Council deems it appropriate to warn people in indoor and outdoor public areas that there is a continuing risk of infection that may be reduced by the wearing of masks in indoor public areas and in outdoor public areas where social distancing cannot be practiced;
NOW BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that citizens are encouraged and urged to wear protective face masks in all public indoor areas, including retail stores, grocery stores, restaurants while not seated at tables, and other businesses, and in outdoor public areas where social distancing of six (6) feet cannot be followed;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that citizens are also encouraged to follow all other safety measures recommended by the Center for Disease Control, the South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
MOVED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED THIS 7TH  DAY OF JULY, 2020.
